The meeting this week (Friday March 7th, 5pm – 7pm) will be in BA 2135. We will be showcasing the 10 games that have been submitted for GMD 2008 and the authors of their games will get a chance to talk about them. We’ll be having pizza as well, so come by and take a look!

Also, the CSSU will be having a pub night at Einstein’s starting at 8pm — be sure to stop by for some free beer right after the meeting!

Meeting This Week!

Hi Everyone!

Our meeting this week will be Friday 5-7pm in BA1240.

Our agenda this week is pretty packed since we missed last week’s meeting.

First off we have a play testing session with Jane from Spring Bay Studios showing the current build of her new game.

Next we have a talk from Thuan about this year’s Game Making Deathmatch which will be starting on Friday as well :D.

Time permitting, Mark will do a short tutorial on Adventure Game Studio for any members interested in using it for their games.

Hope to see you all there!

KOEI Canada Info Session Tomorrow!

We’ve just received word from Jason Wilson (former UofT student and of KOEI Canada fame 😉 ) on the forums that that they’ll be showing up to U of T tomorrow:

I realize this is short notice, but I only got all of the details this morning.

Koei Canada Info Session:

Location: Michael Charles Conference Chamber – GB202
Time: 5:30pm – 7:00pm

I will be there, as well as one of our senior programmers and Carol from HR, so we should be able to cover any questions you might have about Koei Canada. Also, there will be Pizza, and who can turn down free Pizza? Pizza supply is limited so you may want to come early. 🙂

– Jason Wilson

For those who can’t make it, KOEI has updated their employment page and are currently hiring entry-level programmers. The application deadline is Thursday Jan 31, 2008. Time to update your resumes ASAP!

First meeting of 2008!

Happy 2008 everyone!

I hope school isn’t too much work yet. (*shakes fist at operating systems*)

I’ve booked a room for our first meeting.

The meeting will be on:

Wednesday January 23, 2008 11am – 1pm

The room will be:

BA2130

I don’t think people are very happy with this meeting time, so we’ll likely be changing it, but we can debate the time forever, so for the first meeting, we’re having it on Wednesday, and we can discuss any problems then. (For people who can only come to half the meeting, please do come by and let me know what times work better for you so we can work something out for next week).

We’ll be showcasing everyone’s work during the game making secret santa, so it should be a pretty fun meeting. Everyone who wants to show their secret santa games but hasn’t sent them to either me or Thuan please do so, you can send an email to info -at- utgddc.com or president -at- utgddc.com.

See everyone there!

‘At Least 10 Reasons Why the Game Industry Doesn’t Suck’

It is human nature to focus on the bad stuff, and developers are no less human than everyone else! One too many conference “rant” sessions and countless blog posts on the brokenness of the industry has led us all into the dumps. Taking Chris Hecker’s lead (after winning a Choice Award for Community Contribution), let’s rave a bit about all the cool and good stuff that’s going on in the game industry today. At least 10 trends, ideas and success stories will be presented to inspire the downtrodden into once again proclaiming the greatness of games and the industry/people that produces them.

Mike Fletcher, One Laptop Per Child project

Jim McGinley and Rob Segal, TOJam
‘Why TOJam is the greatest fun you can have with pants on.’

See you there!
