Presentation Notes for Oct 11, 2007

Thanks to everyone who came on Thursday night. IMO, it was pretty productive as some people were able to get their hands on XNA right away. We have posted the presentation notes on XNA and PHP here for those who are interested.

Next week I’ll will give a beginner’s tutorial on using Python with PyGame. This will be geared towards first year’s in Computer Science but everyone is welcome of course. If there’s anything in particular you want to know how to do, let me know and I’ll do my best to cover it.

Agenda for Oct 11, 2007

Hey GDDC goers.

We have two presentations for tomorrow. Mark will be giving a short intro to C# and Microsoft’s XNA and Jen will be giving a tutorial on PHP and how cool it is 🙂 .

Meeting location for tomorrow will be Bahen Centre, 2nd floor in room 2195.

Also, if anyone is interested in knowing how to use the Python programming language for making games (like you first year Comp Sci’s), let us know and Thuan will give a tutorial on using PyGame next week.

Industry talk: Jason Wilson of KOEI and former club member

Jason Wilson is a success story of a U of T graduate and former member of the club who broke into the games industry. He’ll be coming to give us a talk about his experience working at KOEI Canada for over a year now next week during club meeting time on Thursday September 27th, 2007 at 7pm in BA1240. Want proof? Here’s his thread on the forums. If you have any questions or things you would like him to talk about, let us know so he can prepare to answer them when he comes.

Meeting Time and Locations!

Hey everyone,

Based on what people wrote on their sheets, we figure that the best time to meet is 7-9pm on Thursdays. I realize that there is one person who can’t attend, as well as two people who can only attend every second week, but it was the best we could do.

The rooms we are meeting in are slightly different for each week, so here’s the list of rooms I’ve booked and their respective dates, they’re all in the Bahen Centre.

SEPT 27 BA1240

OCT 4 BA2165

OCT 11 BA2195

OCT 18 BA2135

OCT 25 BA2195

First Meeting!

Hi Everyone!

After a long and complicated adventure, involving misdirection, intruige and doubt, I’ve managed to book a room for our first meeting! 😀

Here’s all the info that you need:

Time:

Monday Sept 17th, 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Place:

SF 3201

see: http://rrs.osm.utoronto.ca/map/

Sanford Fleming Building Room 3201 – I tried to book a room in the Bahen Center since they’re much nicer, but because it was such sort notice, I was unable to. This will not be our permanent meeting place or time, we will discuss where / when people would rather meet in the first meeting.

I will be sending an email sometime tonight to all of the people who asked for it (I forgot the email list at home :P)

I Hope everyone had a great first week, see you at the meeting!

President: utGDDC

PS. It looks like we’ll be having our first guest speaker on Thursday September 20th from 3-4, but I just have to double check that it’s a good time for her to come.
