First Meeting of 2009

Hello everybody!  Hope you had a great holiday.

Our first meeting of the year will be on this Thursday, the 8th, between 5-7 PM in BA2135. We will decide at that time what our meeting time for the term will be.

CSSU Game Night

The Computer Science Student Union (CSSU) is hosting their regular Game Night event starting at 7 PM in the Great Hall of Computing (BA3200).  There are lots of prizes and tournaments for games including Starcraft, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead.  Bring your computer or laptop and hook into our network to play games all night!

This Game Night is sponsored in part by VALVe, Microsoft, and Electronic Arts Canada.

NOTE: The event is restricted to students of the University of Toronto possessing a valid TCard.  Barring that, all are invited!

Ubisoft & CSC404 Game Testing

Tomorrow (Wednesday) between 5-7 PM in BA1240, Ubisoft will be presenting to students on what it’s like to work there and what kind of people they are looking to recruit.  Last year, they gave away some interesting prizes just for showing up, so don’t miss out.

This Thursday, between 5-7 PM, in BA5250, CSC404 students will be showcasing their video games and soliciting feedback — which will impact their marks.  Come on out and play some new and unique games!

EA Coming to UofT: Monday, November 3rd [UPDATED]

I received this email from Steve Engels today:

“My EA contact is attending FuturePlay on Monday before flying out later that day. I asked her if she could spare a little time to come talk to you, and she agreed to skip part of Monday afternoon to come to UofT and meet with you guys.

As you can imagine, meeting with EA people is a pretty big deal. She’s not making time for other people, just for us. The plan is to steal her away to come here around 3pm, and I’m in the midst of booking a room for us to hear her talk. I’ll email more as soon as I get the details, but I wanted to give you a heads-up now, because she’s a pretty good person to come see and talk to.

Let other people know about this too, if you can.”

More details are on their way soon.  Check back for a concrete time and place.

UPDATE: The meeting has been scheduled for today, November 3rd, at 3pm in BA5256.

Week of Nov. 3rd

We’ll be having a meeting in our usual place on November 3rd — that’s GB221 between 5 and 7 PM.

Additionally, we’ll be having a meeting on Thursday in the Bahen Centre, room B026, between 5 and 7 PM as well.  We are considering a move back to a Thursday meeting time, as that may work better with everyone’s schedules.

Hope to see you all there!

A2M Visit

I received this message from Steve Engels, the professor in charge of the game design courses in the Department of Computer Science:

Hi guys,

Francois Robillard [from A2M] is coming tomorrow at 3pm, in the Bahen Centre, room 1230. Please come.
Bring your friends. And try to come on time, if you can 🙂

See you there!

Steve
